Commercial Solar Hot Water Solutions

Heating your business's hot water with a solar water heater is a clean and sustainable way to lower your energy bills and help you become energy independent. With financial incentives from the Energy Trust of Oregon, State and Federal tax credits, and new ways to finance your investment, heating your hot water from the sun is easy.

Solar Hot Water is the Sustainable Solution to

  • Energy Independence. When you heat your water with the power of the sun, you are providing for yourself and family.
  • Rising Energy Costs. Power prices increase every year. By investing in solar hot water, you set the price of power, and keep it for the life of the system.
  • Dirty Electricity. Even here in the Pacific Northwest where we have a great resource for hydro electricity, 60% of our power comes from burning fossil fuels.
How does Solar Hot Water Work?

Solar hot water systems use the power of the sun to pre-heat water before it goes into your traditional water heater. Preheating your water reduces the amount of energy your traditional water heater uses, and therefore saves you money.  During summer months solar water heaters provide 100% of your hot water needs.  On average, throughout the year, solar water heaters meet 60-70% of your hot water heating needs.

In most cases, the fluid that runs into collector is not the water that you drink; rather it is distilled water and or antifreeze. The fluid is heated as it runs through the collector and then flows down into a heat exchanger in the solar preheating tank. The warm fluid in the heat exchanger warms the water in the preheating tank. At this point the water is now preheated and flows to your traditional hot water heater at a higher temperature than normal and saves you money.

We at Sustainable Solution Unlimited take every project on a case by case basis with the intention of installing systems that meet your needs, rather than a one for all approach. We can install systems that sit flush with your roof and give the appearance of a skylight as well as more cost effective systems that mount above your roof deck. When we meet with you and determine your individual needs, we'll determine the best solution for you, and explain in more detail how it will work.
