Preparing for the Assessment

To prepare your home for the testing, here are some guidelines to keep in mind:

  • All heat and air conditioning registers, furnace, water heater, heat pump and air conditioner must be accessible.  Please move any furniture and other household items before the day of the assessment.
  • Pets sometimes have difficulty staying calm during the testing.  Please have a plan ready before the day of assessment for isolating your pets in a room or for a pet sitter to take care of them.
  • Please do not use the fireplace or woodstove within 24 hours of the assessment.  Clean the ashes from any open fireplaces in your home to keep them from getting spread around during the Home Performance testing.
  • The Home Performance tests will move the air out of your home, please be prepared for temperature changes after the testing is completed.
  • All the exterior doors and windows will need to be closed during the Blower Door test, and all the interior doors will need to be open.  We will open and close the doors as needed, and will let you know when they can be used again.
  • We may need to change the settings of your furnace, water heater, and other appliances so they will not turn on during the testing.  We will reset these appliances back to the original settings after the testing is completed.
