Steven McGrath

Steve is the President and co-founder of Sustainable Solutions Unlimited. Over the past year, Steve has been involved in developing a range of projects and policy matters involving how we use energy in Oregon, including Oregon’s Feed-In Tariff option, the Oregon solar code, Clean Energy Works: Portland, and Oregon Small Wind Energy Association. He also was involved in the committee that developed the Community Workforce Agreement, which is helping historically disadvantaged communities get back to work with green collar jobs. His passion for social equity, environmental sustainability, technology, financial analysis, and energy policy gives him a skill set and personality that's unique to the industry. We’re all very happy to be part of his team.

Tania Hoode

Tania is the first person you'll talk to when you call our office.  As a Certified Sustainable Building Advisor with 10 years of experience in the solar industry, she is happy to advise you on energy efficiency and renewable energy improvements for your home. Before joining our team in 2008, Tania worked 3 years at Rainshadow Solar Electric on Orcas Island in Washington. She also served as the Education and Outreach Coordinator at Solar Oregon, coordinated the Oregon Green and Solar Tours, and assisted the Northwest Solar Cooperative for 2.5 years. Tania has also been a member of the Governor’s Solar Energy Working Group in Oregon. In her spare time, Tania enjoys gardening, camping and hiking, playing guitar, learning Spanish, and volunteering to educate kids of all ages about the benefits of energy efficiency and renewable energy.

Bill McLaughlin

Home Performance Consultant

Bill coordinates our team to ensure your home will become more comfortable, efficient, healthy, safe and durable when our team is finished. Bill began his home energy retrofit career in Boston  with ventilation systems and was a building diagnostic specialist within the mold remediation industry. He increased his knowledge of Home Performance with the first wave of BPI (Building Performance Institute) certifications sponsored by the Energy Trust of Oregon in 2006, here in Portland.  Bill joined our team in the fall of 2008. He has earned and keeps current the following Building Performance Institute Certifications: Building Analyst, Building Envelope Specialist and Heating Specialist and is OSHA 10 hour certified. After moving to Portland from Boston seven years ago, he has loved all the organic diversity that Oregon has to offer. Bill has a wide variety of interests including alternative medicine, qi-gong (internal healing energy) and martial arts.


Noah Cardeira

Renewable Energy Technician

Noah joined our team in February 2010 and is now our lead solar installer. He has worked as an electrician in Massachusetts for 13 years and has installed solar PV, solar hot water, and solar pool heating along with small wind systems. He is OSHA 10 hour certified and a certified lead renovator.  Noah has taught workshops on installing solar and is licensed in the state of Oregon as a Limited Renewable Energy Technician. He’s studied photography and wildlife management, and has strong working knowledge of primitive living skills, plants, and animals.

Lynne Barrett

Home Performance Project Manager

Lynne joined our team in June 2010 as a Home Performance Technician, but her natural leadership ability became evident early on. With a background in construction and managing teams, she quickly moved into Crew Leader position and now schedules and oversees Home Performance field work. A majority of her work experience is in new construction with a focus on foundations and framing. Lynne is OSHA 10 hour certified and lead renovation certified. In her free time, she volunteers with Oregon Trades Women and Habitat for Humanity. She’s studied art, loves to paint, is a hobbyist wood worker, and enjoys working with concrete. 

Matt Battjes

Assistant Project Manager

Renewable Energy Technician

Matt joined our team as a Home Performance Technician in April 2010 helping to weatherize our customer's homes. Since May 2011, he has been working with our Renewable Energy team to manage project installations and assist with site visits and estimates.  His work experience includes back country construction in Yosemite National Forest, kitchen and bath remodeling, hard wood floor installations, and sustainable deconstruction. While working at Yosemite, Matt got hands on experience setting up small, off-grid solar systems that ran the communications systems. He currently holds a certification for lead renovation, with more certifications to come. Matt is a certified bike mechanic, avid rock climber, mountaineer, telemark skier and snowboarder.
